The fastest Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka Station to Hiroshima Station takes 1h 20m, direct, covering 302 km. Trains run from about 06:00 to 22:29.
West of Shin-Osaka, the Tokaido Shinkansen becomes the Sanyo Shinkansen, and the fastest trains cover the run to Hiroshima in under an hour and a half. Nozomi, Mizuho and Sakura services share the line and between them run several times an hour.
The train comfortably beats flying between these two cities: there is no airport transfer at either end, Shin-Osaka and Hiroshima Stations both sit on city rail and tram networks, and boarding takes minutes with a reserved seat already booked.
Ordinary Car seating is 2+3, with the Green Car offering 2+2 and extra room. From Hiroshima Station, the tram network continues straight to the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome, and on to the ferry pier for Miyajima.

Osaka trades Kyoto's formality for street food, neon and the canal-side bustle of Dotonbori. Shinkansen trains reach Shin-Osaka Station, one stop on the Midosuji subway line from Osaka's Umeda and Namba districts, so the last leg into the centre takes only a few minutes.
Hiroshima rebuilt itself around the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome, with the wooded shrine island of Miyajima a short ferry ride beyond the city. Hiroshima Station is a tram ride from the Peace Park and the castle, and the same tram network continues on to the Miyajima ferry pier.
