West of Shin-Osaka, the Tokaido Shinkansen becomes the Sanyo Shinkansen, and the fastest trains cover the run to Hiroshima in under an hour and a half. Nozomi, Mizuho and Sakura services share the line and between them run several times an hour.
The train comfortably beats flying between these two cities: there is no airport transfer at either end, Shin-Osaka and Hiroshima Stations both sit on city rail and tram networks, and boarding takes minutes with a reserved seat already booked.
Ordinary Car seating is 2+3, with the Green Car offering 2+2 and extra room. From Hiroshima Station, the tram network continues straight to the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome, and on to the ferry pier for Miyajima.
