Spring in Munich is delightful — temperatures climb from 8°C in March to 18°C by May, and the city's outdoor culture reawakens with purpose. Beer gardens open for the season in April (Münchners follow a strict rule: beer gardens open when temperatures reach 12°C). The English Garden fills with cyclists, joggers, and sunbathers. The Frühlingsfest (Spring Festival) at Theresienwiese in late April is a smaller, more local version of Oktoberfest — same tents and atmosphere, without the international crowds. The surrounding Bavarian Alps are spectacular in May with wildflowers in bloom and hiking trails opening. The Nymphenburg Palace gardens are at their most beautiful in April and May.

Autumn is Munich's most eventful season, anchored by Oktoberfest (mid-September to the first Sunday of October) — the world's largest folk festival, drawing 6–7 million visitors to the Theresienwiese fairgrounds. Munich's Christmas markets are among the most authentic in Germany — the main market on Marienplatz has operated since the 14th century and fills the square with traditional stalls selling carved wooden decorations, Lebkuchen (gingerbread), mulled wine (Glühwein), and roasted chestnuts. The Medieval Christmas Market at the Residenz and the international market at Kaufingerstrasse add variety. Temperatures drop to 0–5°C in December with frequent snowfall — beautiful but require warm clothing. January and February are quiet and cheap — perfect for museum-focused visits and day trips to the Alps for skiing, just 90 minutes from the city by train.
